A variety of kurinji blooms at Calvary Mount
Mount
Thodupuzha, August 9: A variety of kurinji has flowered on hills called Kalayanathandu. The place is also called Calvary Mount and is about 12 km from Idukki on the side of road to Kattappana.

Though the plant has flowered gregariously, the variety is not neelakurinji (Strobilanthes kunthiana). However, it looks very similar.

Calvary Mount is already an ecotourism destination maintained by Nagarampara River/Forest Protection Council. Accommodation is no more available at the site though the place used to have huts.

(The pictures accompanying this report has been updated to include the latest photos from Calvary Mount taken on August 14, 2016.)
